IOI City Mall spreads Patriotic Cheers with Children Costume Contest
Putrajaya – IOI City Mall was all set to spread the patriotic cheers with their very first Children Costume Contest last Saturday to showcase the true colours of Malaysia!
Hosted by the mall management, the lively contest saw 35 young participants of age 4-12 years old strutting in their best suit and competing on the stage with confidence. These young participants were required to dress according to the theme “True Colours of Malaysia” and their creative works were equally judged based on creativity, originality, craftsmanship, relevance to the theme and functionality.
“In the spirit of patriotism, many of our parenthood brands in the mall are anticipating this event and have given their support by generously contributing prizes and sponsored treats to our participants,” said Chris Chong, Complex General Manager of IOI City Mall.
Shortly after the catwalk rounds on the stage, participants in their colourful suits were thrilled to parade to several participating outlets for treats collection. This route of mini patriotic parade also reflected the diversity of parenthood brands available in the mall. A prize presentation was held right after the parade.
Nurafzan’s efforts paid off when Nur Kasseh Kishreena binti Mohd Taufiq, 6, who made an impressive entrance by emerging from a blooming flower, was crowned the first prize winner. The proud mother, Nurafzan binti Mohd Nezar, 36, said she took two (2) days to complete the elaborated costume props resembling a blooming flower, which was inspired by the beautiful Hibiscus – the national flower of Malaysia.
Her brother, Muhammad Zackrees Akasyah binti Mohd Taifiq, 10, also wowed the judges with a transformative gear and transformed into an army tank right in front of the crowd, and bagged the second prize. While the third prize winner was Ainin Batrisya bt Iskandar Zulkamaine, 7, who stands out with her adorable confidence and a glowing LED dress.
“We had fun and enjoyed the event very much. I always teach my children to express our love for the country, and costume is a convenient way to express our passion,” said Duriana Douglas, 33, the mother of Charisma Churchill, 10, who was dressed in their Iban traditional headpiece and bagged one of the consolation prizes.
Winners’ prizes include shopping vouchers sponsored by ZOOMOOV and PONEY, as well as complimentary tickets by DISTRICT 21 and ICESCAPE ICE RINK. The top three looks went home with prizes worth RM615, RM415 and RM310 respectively, while five children bagged consolation prizes worth RM130 each.
The mall is also decorated with Malaysian flags throughout the patriotic season. National Day celebrations will continue to be a delightful and rewarding experience to every visitor to the mall.
